Hyundai has multiple wins in the EcoCar Electrified Top 50 2022, in the latest edition of the Diesel&EcoCar Magazine.
The four wins are across three of Hyundai’s electrified line-ups, with NEXO winning Best Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Vehicle, IONIQ 5 named as Best Electric Crossover Vehicle and TUCSON acheiving a double win, taking home Hybrid Car of the Year and Best Hybrid Medium SUV 2022, a category the IONIQ 5 also placed 6th in.
Ian Robertson, Editor of Diesel&EcoCar Magazine said, “Whilst hydrogen still has many challenges to overcome before becoming practical for mass adoption, NEXO, the latest evolution of Hyundai’s fuel-cell technology, can provide over 400 zero emission miles from a single refill, and if you can find a refilling station local to you, filling it up takes just a few minutes. Hyundai has proven a fuel-cell car can be as safe and easy to live with as a TUCSON, which is no mean feat.”
Robertson continued his praise for the TUCSON, “Sharing a great deal with other Hyundai Motor Group offerings, including its chassis, powertrains and some hidden parts under the skin, buyers choosing TUCSON will most likely do so out of personal taste. Its powertrains are adept at giving this medium-sized SUV enough performance and are designed to cut running costs, and it’s our favourite self-charging hybrid model. With a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, electric motor and small battery, it can manage almost 50mpg without needing to be plugged in, and still offers plenty of pace. The TUCSON is also a great family car, with a massive 616-litre boot and plenty of space for adults in the rear seats. It also comes with a brilliant five-year warranty as standard.”
Finally, Robertson commented on Hyundai’s latest EV, IONIQ 5, “Hyundai has put itself at the front of the pack for all-electric cars, starting with convincing models like the original IONIQ and KONA Electric, and now with its impressive second-generation EVs starting with the IONIQ 5. The clean sheet design of the E-GMP platform has netted some serious advantages, such as an almost 300-mile range and unique, retro-futuristic design. Not only does it look cool, the IONIQ 5 is also as spacious as most family SUVs, despite having the overall look of a sporty hatchback.”
Ashley Andrew, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor UK said, “This latest selection of award wins demonstrate that our product range continues to offer our customers an outstanding choice of electrified powertrains. With a choice of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell models, customers at any stage of their journey into electrified motoring will be able to choose a Hyundai model that suits their needs”
