Fiat Bravo Now With A 1.6 Turbo Diesel Option

Upon release of strong sales numbers for the one-year-old Fiat Bravo, the automaker has now announced additions to that models lineup. In addition to the current engine otions, the Bravo will also be available for order this quarter with a 1.6 liter multijet 16 valve turbo diesel engine getting either 105 or 120 horsepower.

While those power figures may not sound like much, consider that the new engine has a significant boost in torque and fuel efficiency. And although it goes 0-100 kph in a less-than-expedient 10.5 seconds, the 1.6 liter Bravo is the greenest in its class. This new model has low carbon emissions, and is already Euro5 compliant.

Acceleration is more important than speed on this car. As maximum torque comes at only 1500 rpm, the 1.6 liter Fiat Bravo is a good choice for city-dwellers.

Fiat is trying to leverage their position in this segment, having already sold 90,000 Bravos throughout Europe in 2007. This translates to an increase over their target sales by 20,000. Equally impressive is that the majority of the 120,000 orders Fiat recorded for the Bravo came from outside of Italy.

The Fiat Bravo is now available with 1.3, 1.4, 1.9, and 2.4 liter engines in addition to the latest option. Orders are already being taken for the lower powered 1.6 liter, with the higher horsepower version becoming available in March.
