Fiat’s new ‘Cinquecento’ 500 arrives

fiat_500_mainLast night in Turin, Fiat unveiled its all new 500 minicar with more than 7,000 guests tuning up including thousands of dealers and international motoring journalists. The original 500 minicar was launched exactly fifty years ago, and the latest model is expected to live up to the original’s reputation of fun motoring in an attractive but affordable package.

There will be three engine options on offer for the new minicar, all complying with the latest Euro 5 emissions regulations. These include a new 70hp 1.2L unit that emits just 119g/km of carbon-dioxide emissions and takes 12.9 seconds for the 0 to 100km/h sprint. This is followed by an ultra-efficient 1.3L Multijet diesel and a 100hp 1.4L petrol motor topping the range. The Multijet diesel returns an amazing 63.7mpg fuel economy rating yet still returns an adequate 75hp and 145Nm of torque.

The car’s overall dimensions measure just 3,546mm in length, with a wheelbase of 2,300mm and a 1,414mm track, and the interior has an air of quality despite its budget pricing thanks to chrome highlights and seven airbag safety credentials.
