The Fiat group has announced plans to relaunch Alfa Romeo with a series of new models will also play a key role in relaunching the brand in the U.S. market (how many times have we heard this ?) by 2013.
Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne said Alfa Romeo will launch seven new models from 2010 to 2014 from the new Giulietta who receive an extensive makeover in 2014.
The newcomer to the next Alfa will be a replacement for his BMW 3-Series rival 159 that will be named Giulia.
Set to arrive in 2012, the Giulia is based on an existing platform Fiat (most likely, a larger version and more of the new platform Guilietta). It will be offered in four-door sedan and station wagon variants and according to plan, it will mark the return of the Alfa Romeo brand to the States.
The same year saw the introduction of a version of its urban facelift Alfa MiTo three-door SUV and a Chrysler Group compact base-size, which will be produced and sold in the States.
In 2013, Alfa will add a five-door model in its range and the MiTo launch the car in the U.S. The plan also includes the presentation of a new Spider will be produced in Europe and the U.S.
There has been speculation that the new Spider will be based on a platform derived from rear-wheel drive Mercedes Chrysler, but it has not yet been officially confirmed. Anyway, we hope that this concept is much like Pininfarina 2uettottanta superb (see details and photos here), which was revealed to the gathering last month in Geneva.
Finally, in 2014, Alfa Romeo will present a Chrysler Group-based midsize SUVs. Like its smaller brothers, this model will be manufactured in America.
It is also interesting to note that the Alfa Romeo product plan 2010-2014 does not include a replacement for the GT 2 +2 coupe, the Brera and the 166 sedan distant. The latter should be replaced by 169 in 2009, while previous plans Alfa mentioned the introduction of a compact SUV in 2010 – who said, do not take product shots of the Fiat group for granted.
