Want Nissan Titan? Wait till 2014!

It may be a while before buyers get their hands on the next-generation Nissan Titan. Automotive News reports that the vehicle has encountered engineering delays brought about by this year’s earthquake and tsunami tragedies in Japan, and now the next-gen pickup may not debut until the 2014 model year. The news comes courtesy of Andy Palmer, executive vice president for vehicle planning and program management at Nissan, who said that he made the decision to delay the vehicle’s development.

As you may recall, Nissan originally planned to co-develop a successor with Chrysler. Unfortunately, the American automaker entered bankruptcy before that plan could come to fruition. The next-generation full-size pickup from Nissan was slated to debut this year.

The current Titan debuted in 2004, making the truck one of the oldest platforms in a fiercely competitive segment. Here’s hoping that the delay won’t cause any issues with turbo diesel four-cylinder engine Nissan is currently developing with Cummins.
