ŠKODA confirms UK pricing and specifications for SUV derivative of ENYAQ iV vRS

ŠKODA has confirmed final UK specifications and pricing for the SUV version of its ENYAQ iV vRS – the second all-electric model to wear the brand’s iconic vRS badge. Available to order from 17 January 2023, the ENYAQ iV vRS follows in the wheel tracks of the ENYAQ COUPÉ iV vRS launched earlier this year, and offers increased practicality alongside sporty performance and striking design.

Priced from £52,670 OTR, the new ENYAQ iV vRS is fitted with an 82kWh (77kWh net) battery pack and has a WLTP driving range of 321 miles. Like the COUPÉ version, the SUV variant has a power output of 299PS and is equipped with twin motors – one on each axle. Combined, the motors deliver 460Nm of torque to give instant acceleration and a powerful mid-range response.

As befits the sporting flagship of the ENYAQ iV range, the new vRS features a bespoke chassis set up designed to deliver an even more responsive driving experience. The standard sports suspension lowers the body by 15 millimetres at the front axle and 10 millimetres at the rear axle. This, combined with progressive steering as standard, gives the ENYAQ iV vRS the kind of dynamic handling that vRS drivers have come to expect from ŠKODA.

Drive Mode Select offers the predefined profiles Eco, Normal and Sport, while a custom slider allows the driver to adjust the settings to their own preferences. Comfort driving mode is only available when optional Dynamic Chassis Control is specified. The ENYAQ iV vRS also offers the additional driving profile Traction. Designed for driving on unpaved roads or slippery surfaces, Traction Mode offers constant all-wheel drive at speeds of up to 12 mph.

For owners looking for an even sportier drive, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) can be specified as an option. DCC constantly monitors the situation on the road and automatically adjusts the damping.

In terms of performance, the ENYAQ iV vRS has a top speed of 111mph and a 0-62mph time of just 6.5 seconds – identical figures to that of the COUPÉ variant. The ENYAQ iV vRS can be rapid DC charged at speeds of up to 135kW via a CCS connector, and can achieve an 80% charge in as little as 36 minutes when connected to a 150kW charger or faster. On a standard 7.2kW home wallbox, a charge from empty to full will take around 13 hours.

Like all ŠKODA vRS models, the ENYAQ iV vRS combines strong performance with sporty looks.

20-inch Taurus alloy wheels with aerodynamically optimised aero trims are fitted as standard with larger 21-inch Vision wheels with an anthracite finish as an option.

Unique vRS sports bumpers front and rear give the car a more muscular, purposeful look while the front end is further distinguished by ŠKODA’s innovative Crystal Face grille (illuminated by 131 LEDs), framed with gloss black surrounds. The ENYAQ iV vRS’s window trims and tailgate lettering are also finished in gloss black to further enhance the sporty feel.

The front bumper features high-gloss black accents on the air curtain surrounds, which are E-shaped on the vRS model. The side skirts are finished in body colour while the red reflector strip in the rear bumper runs the full width of the vehicle – a distinguishing feature of all ŠKODA vRS models.

Inside, the ENYAQ iV vRS features a special vRS Design Selection that comes with sports seats with black perforated leather seat upholstery with grey piping and contrast stitching. The multifunction sports leather steering wheel also features contrast stitching while the dashboard sports a leather-look finish with contrast stitching.

The sporting flagship also comes as standard with a three-zone climate control system, LED ambient lighting that also illuminates the dashboard and door panels, as well as wireless smartphone charging. The ENYAQ iV VRS’s 585-litre boot is 15 litres larger than that of the ENYAQ iV COUPÉ vRS and can be extended to 1,710 litres by folding the rear seats down. To ensure easy access to the load area, the vRS is fitted with virtual pedal as standard.

First UK deliveries of the new ENYAQ iV vRS are expected from June 2023.

The ENYAQ iV vRS’s optional head-up display provides information on two display panels on the windscreen, allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road at all times. In the augmented reality field, for example, large direction arrows from the navigation system are projected virtually onto the road in front of the vehicle.

Central airbag between front passengers
The ENYAQ iV achieved 94% for adult passenger protection and 89% for child passenger protection in the 2021 Euro NCAP test. In addition to achieving the highest five-star rating, it was also named the safest vehicle in its class with the best score for an electric SUV to date. The highest possible passive safety for passengers is ensured by up to nine airbags. Driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags and two head airbags, which also cover the side windows in the first and second rows of seats, all come as standard. In addition, a central airbag between the front seats prevents the front passengers from hitting each other in a collision. Two side airbags are available as an option for the outer rear seats. Proactive Occupant Protection, included as standard, tightens the seat belts in the event of an imminent collision or emergency braking and closes the windows before an impending collision or if the vehicle is in danger of skidding or tipping over.

New functions for Travel Assist
All ŠKODA’s currently available assistance systems are available for the ENYAQ iV vRS. This includes the latest version of Travel Assist: It actively supports longitudinal and lateral guidance and, besides Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), also includes Adaptive Lane Keeping Assist with Roadworks Detection, Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist. It also accesses current swarm data and uses the relevant information to provide even better system support. Road Experience Management uses anonymised driving data from Volkswagen Group vehicles which, like the ENYAQ iV vRS, can automatically send information to a central computer. This data is used to build up a database on the current status of the road network. It enables Adaptive Lane Assist to recognise temporary lane markings as well as numerous objects at the side of the road, such as traffic barriers or parked cars. In addition, the ENYAQ iV vRS can support cornering in narrow city streets or unmarked roadsides. Urban Evasive Steering Support detects parked vehicles, road works, traffic islands and intersections, for example, and supports the driver in the event of an imminent collision, taking targeted evasive action with active steering interventions. On motorways and multi-lane roads, the ENYAQ iV now facilitates overtaking at speeds of over 90 km/h with automatically assisted lane changes. In addition to Front Assist with predictive pedestrian and cyclist protection, which comes as standard, Blind spot detect including Rear Traffic Alert is available, as well as Evasion Assist, Turn Assist and Exit Warning. Optimum visibility at all times with full LED matrix headlights
With 24 individually controllable LEDs in each high beam module, the ENYAQ iV vRS’s standard full LED matrix headlights make it possible to keep the high beam on permanently without dazzling other road users. As soon as the windscreen camera detects vehicles, people or objects that reflect light, the intelligent lighting technology automatically shields them from the beam.

Sustainability: ENYAQ iV vRS delivered with a carbon-neutral balance sheet

  • ŠKODA increasingly relies on reused and recyclable materials in production
  • Unavoidable emissions are offset by certified carbon credits
  • Second life cycle: Batteries from the ENYAQ iV will serve as stationary energy storage units after being used in vehicles

As one of the many initiatives under the NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030, ŠKODA AUTO will be reducing its CO2 fleet emissions by more than 50% by 2030 compared to 2020. The upcoming battery electric vehicles will also play a crucial role in this. Models in the ENYAQ iV family are already being delivered to customers with a carbon-neutral balance sheet. ŠKODA is also increasingly using recycled and recyclable materials in production and has been drawing on the expertise of a sustainability advisory board since 2021 to achieve its ambitious sustainability goals.

Owners of a vehicle from the ENYAQ iV family can travel 100% “green” with their ŠKODA throughout its life cycle if they charge the SUV exclusively with renewable electricity. This is because ŠKODA AUTO delivers the all-electric, locally emission-free SUV to customers with a CO2-neutral balance sheet. The carmaker compensates for currently unavoidable CO2 emissions during production by purchasing certified carbon credits.

Extensive use of recycled and recyclable materials
ŠKODA is focusing more and more on recycled materials in its current models to effectively reduce the CO₂ footprint of its vehicles along the entire value chain. The proportion of recycled materials in ŠKODA vehicles is constantly increasing, with recycled plastics, metals and glass all making an important contribution. Recycled plastics that come from former battery housings and bumpers, for example, are used to make new underbody panelling, engine covers and boot linings. ŠKODA AUTO is also working on developing sustainable materials with natural constituents that will enter series production in the future. These include sugar beet fibres, a by-product from a sugar factory in Dobrovice, not far from ŠKODA’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav. These types of fibres or shells, including those from coconut and other nuts, rice, cork and hops, as well as coffee grounds, could be used as potential natural fillers in plastic composites.

Second life cycle for high-voltage batteries
After being used in a vehicle, the batteries from ENYAQ iV family models go through a second life cycle. They supply ŠKODA dealers with sustainably produced electricity in stationary energy storage units, which can be used for charging stations, lighting and air conditioning in showrooms and workshops, among other applications. In addition, the systems can store surplus green electricity that is generated, for example, by a photovoltaic system. This electricity is then available at any time, regardless of the weather or the current load of the local power grid. The service life of the batteries is extended to up to 15 years through this second cycle. Once the second life cycle in the storage stations has ended, ŠKODA AUTO feeds the batteries into a controlled recycling process. The recovered raw materials are then used to produce new batteries.

Further measures to reduce CO2 emissions
ŠKODA AUTO’s wide range of sustainability measures build on the Volkswagen Group’s ‘goTOzero’ environmental mission statement. The policy encompasses the topics of climate change, resources, air quality and environmental compliance. In addition to sharpening the focus on sustainable materials and renewable energy, ŠKODA AUTO is also continuously striving to reduce the use of resources in producing each vehicle. Besides raw materials, this includes energy consumption and the emissions associated with transport and logistics. ŠKODA AUTO’s component plant in Vrchlabí has been CO2-neutral since 2020. The two other sites in the Czech Republic, Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny, will achieve this goal by 2030, and the locations in India as early as 2025. The third-largest photovoltaic roof system in the Czech Republic will go into operation at ŠKODA’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav in spring 2023. A smaller system on the roofs of the service centre in Kosmonosy and a CHP plant, where around a third of the fuel is biomass, already produce electricity from renewable sources.

Independent sustainability advisory board with internationally renowned experts
ŠKODA AUTO has drawn on the expertise of an external sustainability advisory board since November 2021. The independent panel of five internationally renowned experts advises the Board of Management on the implementation of planned sustainability measures and provides new perspectives, impetus and approaches. This means the car manufacturer is one of the first companies in the Czech Republic to rely on the expertise of an advisory board in this area.
