2015 Chrysler 200 has just been introduced to the market and the news around its advantages are spreading rapidly. It offers elegance and outstanding driving experience. Next to them, it also offers unexpected for its class fuel efficiency which was officially EPA rated at 36 mpg.
As a matter of fact, big influence on this number has the standard nine-speed transmission as well as the available all-wheel drive. More importantly however, are the two new powertrains, which are reviewed below.
The first one is the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 I-4 engine and it is rated at 23 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. The second powertrain is the available 295 horsepower (217 kW) Pentastar V-6. This one offers a fuel consumption of 19 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined.
Furthermore, when the V6 equipped model has the available AWD, then the figures are 18 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. Some of the advanced technologies included in the new 2015 Chrysler 200 contribute towards these exceptional numbers.
Precisely, the optional all-wheel-drive system features fully disconnecting rear axle that enhances the fuel efficiency by operating in front-wheel drive when all-wheel drive is not needed. This system also has one-speed power transfer unit (PTU) and automatically disconnects and reconnects the rear axle as needed and at any speed. The disconnecting rear axle disconnects at both the PTU and rear drive module, which improves fuel economy by reducing parasitic loss when all-wheel drive is not needed.
The addition of more gear ratios through the nine-speed automatic transmission optimizes both fuel economy and performance by precisely matching the gear state to the most efficient engine operating condition. The high-tech transmission dispenses power smoothly for elevated refinement, which is made possible because the ratio steps between its gears are smaller than those of other transmissions.
2015 Chrysler 200 is currently on sale with an initial price tag of $21,700 USD.
