Toyota has made running changes to three of its four 86 sports-car variants, but has kept the $29,990* entry price unchanged.
The most significant update is the addition of a Torsen® limited-slip differential (LSD) as standard to the automatic GT grade.
Equipping this variant with an LSD brings it into line with the rest of the range and adds just $300 to the recommended retail price.
Top-of-the-line GTS manual and automatic variants now have a rear spoiler as standard, adding $500 to their prices.
Toyota says the changes were made based on feedback from customers who wanted the automatic GT to have the same dynamic properties as the rest of the range, and for the GTS to have greater external differentiation.
The most affordable 86, the GT manual, remains priced from $29,990* – the same as when the car was introduced to the market more than 15 months ago in June 2012.
The 86 – voted “car of the year” by many Australian and international media organisations – has brought a surge of excitement and passion to the Toyota brand.
It is the best-selling sports car in Australia this year with local sales of the compact, four-seat sports car having topped 4,800 units.
Toyota’s 86 comes from a front-mounted, free-revving, horizontally opposed “boxer” petrol engine that drives the rear wheels.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine’s maximum power of 147kW and peak torque of 205Nm is put to the road through six-speed manual or sequential-shift automatic transmissions.
The unique powertrain is combined with a compact design, light weight and a low centre of gravity to provide lively, accessible performance and highly engaging dynamic abilities with minimal electronic intrusion.
Standard equipment includes seven airbags, a five-mode stability control system, traction control, anti-skid brakes, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, air-conditioning, CD sound system, daytime running lamps (DRLs) and a multi-information display.
The 86 GTS has 17-inch alloy wheels, a 6.1-inch display screen, satellite navigation with live traffic updates**, auto-levelling HID headlamps, leather-accented front seats, dual-zone climate-control air-conditioning, aluminium pedals, LED DRLs and red stitching highlights.
