All-New Renault Megane E-Tech Electric awarded maximum 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating

The All-New Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric has today been awarded the maximum 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The class-leading safety of the forthcoming all-electric model was officially recognised with the highest possible rating after scoring 85 per cent for adult occupant protection, 88 per cent on child occupation protection, 65 per cent for vulnerable road users and 79 per cent for safety assist.

Contributing to the impressive occupant safety scores of the All-New Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric are its exceptionally stiff body structure and seven airbags, while a total of 26 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) saw it achieve its high mark for safety assist.

The ADAS features are divided into three categories: driving, parking and safety. Standout additions are Active Driver Assist, which is now classed as Level 2 vehicle autonomy, combining contextual adaptive cruise control with “Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, which is an automatic emergency braking system that activates when the driver is reversing. The system initially provides a visual and audible initial warning, with the brakes automatically applied should the driver not react.

Other innovations are the smart speed limiter, which uses a front camera and the navigation system to determine the current speed limit as quickly as possible and adjusts the speed limiter, cruise control, or adaptive cruise control to suit, and Occupant Safe Exit (OSE) that warns an occupant of an approaching vehicle, motorcycle or cyclist as they open a car door.

Notably, the All-New Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric also has a QR code affixed to the windscreen, which in the event of an accident can be quickly scanned by rescue teams to reveal the location of the car’s battery and airbags for quick and risk-free cutting. The inclusion of the QR code can save up to 15 minutes on the time it takes to extract an occupant in the event of a crash.

As the first of a new generation of electric vehicles to benefit from the advanced CMF-EV electric car platform, the All-New Mégane E-Tech Electric blends increased efficiency and range with optimum safety. The new model is available with two battery options: 40kWh for a range of up to 186 miles (WLTP), and 60kWh for up to 292 miles of range (WLTP). AC 22 and DC charging up to 130kW are standard, achieving faster charging and up to 186 miles in just 30 minutes
