VOLKSWAGEN GOLF RVolkswagen has released the first details of its powerful new Volkswagen Golf R, which is set to take to the stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.  With a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 300 PS and 380 Nm (280 lbs ft), and transferring its power to the road via the latest 4MOTION four-wheel drive system, the new Golf R is the fastest-accelerating production Golf yet, with a zero to 62 mph time of just 5.3 seconds (compared with 5.7 seconds for the previous model), or 4.9 seconds when fitted with the optional six-speed DSG gearbox.  Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Volkswagen Golf R CabrioletMeet the new Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet, the first-ever open-top R model and the fastest-ever production open-top Golf. At the heart of the new range-topping cabriolet is a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine producing 265 PS, connected to a standard six-speed DSG gearbox transmitting power to the front wheels. The new car has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, with the benchmark 0-62 mph sprint taking just 6.4 seconds.

In place of his early six-cylinder engines in the R32 (so called because of 3.2-liter displacement), Volkswagen has not placed – as actually expected – the R36, but for ecological reasons the short and concise called Golf R with “discreet” 2 liters capacity, lower fuel consumption and more favorable carbon dioxide emissions. And nevertheless, the Golf R by Volkswagen with its 270 hp (or 199 kW) and 350 Nm of torque is the most powerful production Golf, at least so far.

Volkswagen are following the Golf R Cabrio Concept that graced the Wörthersee 2011 stage with a full production version and here is the model in action on video for the first time.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine with 270HP (199 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h in 6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
