Hyundai Genesis Coupe to feature Brembo brakes
Update: Hyundai has announced that its upcoming Genesis Coupe will be available with a high-performance brake package from Brembo. For the Coupe’s front 18in wheels, Brembo engineers developed 13.4in x 1.1in (340mm x 28mm) rotors and four-piston fixed calipers. The rear wheels, meanwhile, are fitted with 13in x 0.78in (330mm x 20mm) rotors and smaller four-pot calipers.

Original: Hyundai held a special event recently where it invited a total of 20 different aftermarket performance tuners to measure up the new 2010 Genesis Coupe at the carmaker’s North American headquarters in Fountain Valley, California. The event gives the tuners a chance to research the car and gather data to start developing a range of performance accessories before the car even goes into production.

The Genesis Coupe is slated to enter production at Hyundai’s plant in Alsan, South Korea, at the end of this year and isn’t expected to arrive at North American showrooms until February next year. There were a range of aftermarket tuners, including Wet Okole Hawaii, which makes waterproof seat covers, to the usual forced-induction companies like Garrett-Honeywell and HKS, reports Edmunds.

Hyundai normally waits until the start of production to allow tuners an inside look at its cars but in the case of the Genesis Coupe Hyundai wanted the tuners to have an early start so that the first products could be available soon after the car goes on sale.

Both a 310hp 3.8L V6 and a new 223hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder will be offered. The four-banger is actually a derivative of the same engine from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, and this struck a chord with many of the tuners. They were also happy to see plenty of space in the engine bay for more performance accessories.

Hyundai also used the opportunity to confirm that the company will offer performance Track versions of both models. Some of the uprated features planned include stiffer suspension, a front strut tower brace and a full set of Brembo brakes.
